Attractions - First Hand Account
When you get accepted for Attractions, there are a number of things you could be doing. Attractions covers rides, theatre ops, transportation, park greeter, and playground areas. For my college program, I was lucky enough to experience two of these categories. My initial location was DINOSAUR the ride at Disney's Animal Kingdom where my main responsibilities included greeting guests, measuring heights, grouping guests to fit in the cars, loading and unloading guests, and learning to say "Pull on the yellow tab" in as many languages as possible (Currently at 5).
After a few months, I was trained at the Boneyard Dig Site which is also located within Dinoland USA in Animal Kingdom. Since this attraction is a playground and does not include any technical aspects, my list of responsibilities was much shorter. When I worked at the Boneyard I monitored my area to prevent children from climbing where they shouldn't, monitored the slides so that children were going down once a time feet first, monitored the ropes so that children were going one at a time in an upward direction, and played with children in the Dig Site area.
For those accepted into the Attractions role, my best advise is to be open to whatever location you get. I was not completely psyched when I found out I would be working Dinoland Attractions, but now my friends, family, or anyone who has known me for more than five minutes cannot get me to shut up about it. I was excited every day when I went to work and left every day smiling. Also, if you end up working somewhere with FastPass availability, be prepared to ruin AT LEAST 10-25 vacations a day. A shocking amount of people do not understand the FastPass system and will yell at you when you tell them they cannot use their FastPass that expired 11 hours ago.
